Panang Thai outside

I was hungry coming into work today and I stopped by Panang Thai on the way in. I ordered my usuals of spring rolls and Thai hot Masaman Curry with tofu.

After paying for my food and waiting a few minutes for them to cook my food I left with a heavy brown bag full of hot liquidy food. After settling in for work I opened my hot package and set out my food and start eating.

The spring rolls were still hot but not crispy which is no fault of theirs since it was a good 20 minutes or so since I picked up my order from Panang. The sweet and spicy dipping sauce was a good balance and not too acidic.

The entree itself came in a tub with a take out container of rice. I ended up having to use the container that the spring rolls came in to put my food in. If I didn’t have that I don’t know what I would have done to eat my food. This way of storing the food wasn’t well thought out. If I decide to take out from here tonight, I am going to have to think ahead and bring a plate with me.

The curry itself was very tasty. The tofu was nicely fried and not too mushy in the inside. The veggies held their shape but they weren’t firm and melted without any crunch in the mouth. I did add the spring roll garnish on the dish that added some crunch to the dish. The sauce was flavorful and spicy. It could have been a bit more spicy to my liking, but I think most places hold back.

The curry had potatoes, carrots, onions and roasted peanuts. The sauce was pretty soupy but it was sopped up by the steamed rice for the most part. The portions of main course to rice was just about perfect. The rice was cooked perfectly, it held on to the sauce so once everything was mixed you had a taste of the curry in every bite.

I don’t know if it was because I got the order togo or if this time was an off day for them, but I have had Panang before dining in, and at that time the veggies were better in firmness. I don’t think I have been disappointed in their food before. Although not the best Thai I have had they are not the worst either and they are good enough for me to be a repeat customer.
