After an extended weekend in San Francisco I came home to errands that needed to be run. I decided to stop in Pei Wei again for a quick lunch.

I ordered a couple of spring rolls and Thai Dynamite with tofu and veggies extra spicy and with brown rice. I was disappointed that the sriracha special they had on their menu last time had ended, but decided to try this instead.

My spring rolls came out first. I wasn’t done eating half of the first one when my meal came out and it had to sit and get cold while I finished my appetizer. That is the one thing that bugs me most about this place is they have absolutely no sense in timing. They cook everything as fast as they can and it doesn’t matter if you are ready or not. I guess that is the fast casual concept. The spring rolls and sauce was good as usual.

The Thai Dynamite had a sriracha chile sauce, long green scallions, red bell peppers, carrots, l broccoli, carrots and snap peas, and was garnished with a lime which I squeezed on top. I mixed the entree with the rice as best I could without making too much of a mess. The flavors were good, the heat could have been up a notch or two, I think that the biggest disappointment to this dish is the fact that the green onions were not chopped up in any form of an edible bite. Eating the long stocks of onion made your mouth feel, well oniony. I ended up leaving them on the plate when I was done. The baked and marinated tofu was really good. It went well with the dish, I always try to save them for the end. One of these days I am going to be able to recreate it at home.

The staff was friendly and quick to reset the tables as usual. I usually get the mandarin orange green tea and I put some more orange in it at the table. It is pretty good, but needs a bit more orange flavor in it.

Overall for an upscale fast food place this is pretty good. If I had my druthers I would rather eat here than in one of those chain Chinese places that try to hide the fact that it is a chain but you look at the menu and it is the same exact menu as the place right down the street. The food here seems to be a bit healthier and more tasty here as well, less oily and more consistent.

Pei Wei is a national chain based in Texas. The location I ate at was:
1500 24th Avenue Northwest
Norman, OK 73069
(405) 364-1690

Located on the west side of 24th Ave just north of Mt Williams Dr. right next to Dress Barn
